YouTube's 'Conspiracy Effect'

Psychology

Does YouTube Promote Conspiracy Theories?

I’m sure many of you can relate when I say I have found myself watching video clips on YouTube (of cute kittens), when all of a sudden, it’s 2 hours later – I had lost all sense of time and realised that yet again, I had been sucked in to a ‘YouTube binge’ – the videos I had watched were recommended to me on the right side of the screen, given by the site’s helpful “up next” feature. Two hours of watching video clips, and I’d gone from watching kittens to something totally different, having no idea how I got there.

A Picture in a Frame

Psychology

HOW THE MEDIA USE IMAGES AS A WAY OF FRAMING.

It has been said that ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, but how do pictures used in the media contribute to the framing effect?  Are pictures really worth a thousand words or is the frame those pictures are in worth more?

Framing…It’s not what you say, but how you say it.

The framing effect focuses on the behavioural and attitudinal outcomes based on not what is being communicated, but rather how that information is being presented (or framed).

Can Virtual Reality Make Us More Empathetic? - Consciouslifenews.com

Psychology/Technology

Technology is growing expediently, which can be daunting and bring apprehensions of a dystopian future — a world where technology over-rules and humanity falls. However, recent developments in technology have been proved to be beneficial.

In particular, virtual reality has come along way from being science fiction to be a working product, and research suggests that experiencing simulated environments could increase empathy. A recent study at Standford Virtual Human Interaction Lab found that participants who took part in the VR experience “becoming homeless” increased not only levels of empathy but also had long-lasting effects.
